Free for children under 5, and those aged 65 years and older. A charge of $8.50 for all other patient cohorts.

Everyone stands to benefit from getting a flu shot. It’s the single best way to protect yourself and loved ones this season.

This year we will be providing the Quadrivalent vaccine, as recommended by the World Health Organisation, and the only vaccine available in Australia in 2020. It contains the following four strains:

  • an A/Brisbane/02/2018 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus
  • an A/South Australia/34/2019 (H3N2)-like virus
  • a B/Washington/02/2019-like (B/Victoria lineage) virus
  • a B/Phuket/3073/2013-like (B/Yamagata lineage) virus

Flu symptoms can develop between 1 and 3 days after someone is infected. They can include, coughing, sore throat, muscle & joint pains, fatigue, fever & chills, headaches and sneezing.

  • Incubation period: 24 - 72 hours
  • Symptoms: 3 - 7 days
  • Recovery: Up to 2 weeks

Each year, flu vaccines are updated to better match circulating viruses. This is because flu viruses can mutate from season to season. Major mutations are often the cause of pandemics (epidemics of infectious diseases) because the immunity that we acquire over time from repeated exposure or vaccination may no longer be effective.
This is why it’s especially important to get a flu shot each year instead of relying on vaccination from a previous season.
